Secure: Our
internet shop is totally secure. You can trust that our shopping
cart system is not only 100% safe, but also very easy to navigate.
Privacy:
All of your information remains private with us. Absolutely no information
is released from our company. We do not sell or give away your name
to anybody or any organisation.
Mail Order:
We also produce a mail order catalogue called the Maruia Nature
Catalogue (Maruia means "sheltered valley" in the Maori
language). Our website shop has all of the catalogue products and
more. You can use the "search" facility on our website
by typing in the product title or code number from the catalogue
to easily find the product you'd like to order.
It is our goal to make our success your success
by committing to creating a New Zealand of great diversity in natural
resources, ecosystems and animal life. By shopping with the Maruia
Nature Company whether from our catalogue or on the website, you
enable us to commit financial resources to preserving, protecting
and enhancing the New Zealand wildlife and landscapes that we all
cherish. Throughout our business practices we attempt to use environmentally
conscious practices; from using recycled packaging when possible,
to printing on recycled paper and promoting organic products.
We have supported the New Zealand Environmental
Group, "Ecologic Foundation" in various areas in the past.
Some of our past projects have included improving water quality
in our rivers, preserving bird habitat and forest protection. We
have two major projects we are concentrating on now. The first is
the South Island Kokako search - see our Nature
Watch pages. And our new project, Our New Zealand Birthright;
to create fair and enforceable laws offering all New Zealanders
the assurance of an abundance of fish and sealife in our seas for
future generations to enjoy.
More environmental programs sponsored by
New Zealand Nature Co:
Ngali Nut Oil Project:
We work with Conservation International in the Solomon Islands to
use the oil from the Ngali Nut to make a range of Rainforest Body
Care products from the precious and rich moisturising oil. The residents
of the Makira conservation district can make a living harvesting
the valuable nuts rather than clearfelling their native forest.
See our Rainforest
Body Care, soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc.
Cambodian Handicrafts:
CHA - Silk arts and crafts made by Landmine and Polio disabled in
Cambodia. Over 40,000 persons in Cambodia are disabled by landmines.
The Cambodian Handicrafts Association seeks to re-integrate these
people into productive members of society. See our silk
wallets, purses, teddy bears and Christmas stockings, and help
support this project.
Our New Zealand Birthright:
Snapper, Crayfish, Blue Cod, and Paua are the subjects of this years
environmental project. Our goal is to claim back our right to catch
a fish for dinnner and make it so everyone wins. This will include
marine reserve legislation, restrictions on commercial activity
close to shore, areas set aside for recreational use only, and restrictions
on nets. Wish us luck.
The Search for the South Island Kokako:
We continue to support Rhys Buckingham and his dedicated team of
ornithologists, in his quest to find the South Island Kokako. To
hear the haunting cry of the nearly extinct Kokako, visit our Nature
Watch pages.
Eco Fur and possums in New Zealand:
We have been selling possum fur products under the Eco Fur label
for over 10 years. Possums are the number one ecological threat
to our native forests and the animal life that lives there. We believe
in the "market solution" to the possum problem. We are
against the state sponsored 1080 poison program.
WEAN - A Nepalese women's cooperative:
The aim is to develop the economic and social status of Nepalese
Women by producing and marketing select goods. See the children's
felt slippers made with New Zealand wool.
North Coast Board Shorts:
No Logo Board shorts (swim suits for teenagers) - against name brand
and against sweat shops. Embroidered board shorts from Aceh in Indonesia.
Each shop produces shorts with their own indivualised embroidery.
Best quality and each producer is paid a fair shop rate.
